Interview with L’Envol http://www.permondo.eu/interview-with-lenvol/ http://www.permondo.eu/interview-with-lenvol/#respond Wed, 20 Apr 2016 13:46:03 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=5550 Although a Frenchman, an Irish woman and a German may sound like the beginning of a pub joke, this time it meant PerMondo conducting an interesting interview with Rebecca Egan and Olivier Dreneau from L’Envol, a SeriousFun camp in France.

You can listen to the video below, but if you find the thought of not being able to see our beautiful faces somewhat unbearable, you can read the transcription of the interview instead.

Enjoy and don’t forget to follow our channel on YouTube!

For the eager readers amongst you, here’s the transcript…

Sabrina:           Good morning, Rebecca. Good morning, Olivier. Thanks for being here today. My name is Sabrina and I wanted to ask you a couple of questions about your collaboration with PerMondo – the initiative for free translations for NGOs – and I basically just wanted to know a little bit more about you and the organisation you work for. So, what exactly is it that l’Envol, or SeriousFun Children’s Network, does? And what is your specific role as, in your case [Olivier], Camp Director, or in your case [Rebecca], Assistant Camp Director?

Olivier:            Good morning.

PerMondo has a Spring in its Step after Easter http://www.permondo.eu/permondo-has-a-spring-in-its-step-after-easter/ http://www.permondo.eu/permondo-has-a-spring-in-its-step-after-easter/#respond Thu, 31 Mar 2016 10:23:22 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=5345 PerMondo has a Spring in its Step after Easter

Easter certainly seems to have left everyone at PerMondo feeling rejuvenated, as we’ve completed an enormous number of projects this week and welcomed a few new NGOs into our ranks. As always, we’ll start by introducing these new organisations, before looking at our ongoing projects and thanking our volunteers for their collaboration.

The first new organisation to make the most of our services this week was the Biopolitics International Organisation. This Athens-based NGO was founded in 1985 and aims to promote international environmental cooperation and education in the fields of climate change and environmental abuse. We were approached by this NGO to translate two texts (1590 words) from English into German and Italian. We look forward to delivering our translations in April.

The other organisation to approach us for the first time was the European Childhood Obesity Group, an NGO which brings together a large amount of specialists from across Europe to tackle obesity and overweight in children. The prospect of this project could, in itself, be described as “obese”: the translation of an eBook created by the foundation. For now, we’ve been asked to translate the first few chapters of the book and have been set a deadline for April – we’ll keep you posted on our progress!

“Purr”Mondo Supports the Animal Welfare of Pets and Strays http://www.permondo.eu/purrmondo-supports-the-animal-welfare-of-pets-and-strays/ http://www.permondo.eu/purrmondo-supports-the-animal-welfare-of-pets-and-strays/#respond Fri, 04 Mar 2016 16:25:55 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=5169 “Purr”Mondo Supports the Animal Welfare of Pets and Strays

As the first day of March got everyone at PerMondo looking forward to the hot summer ahead this week, we got a warm stroke of appreciation from our four-legged friends at TIERFAIR, an NGO which deals mainly with the welfare issues of stray and domestic animals.

After already enjoying a rewarding collaboration with this Swiss organisation, we had been contacted again to provide our translation services. This time, we were able to help out with the 1942-word translation of some rather informative and humorous articles on chubby pets at Christmas, “heart-warming gifts” taken straight from the garden and donated kindly by cats to their owners, and how to spot a good breeder. The texts were translated from German into English and French. We owe a big thank you to Melody Winkle and ALL (translators) and to Thomas McGuinn and Emilie Bloh (proofreaders).

It’s always nice to hear how grateful the organisations are for our translations. TIERFAIR is no exception, as its president and founder, Claude Häberling, wrote the following message:

“PerMondo and Mondo Agit have provided us with their services free of charge, and their team of volunteers have worked quickly and professionally.

New Projects are Music to the Ears of PerMondo http://www.permondo.eu/new-projects-are-music-to-the-ears-of-permondo/ http://www.permondo.eu/new-projects-are-music-to-the-ears-of-permondo/#comments Fri, 26 Feb 2016 10:30:57 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=5103 New Projects are Music to the Ears of PerMondo

This week, we at PerMondo were delighted to provide our translation services to a new organisation: the Verdi Stiftung.

The Internationale Giuseppe Verdi Stiftung, founded in 2007, is a nonprofit foundation which is recognised in several European countries. Its most important objective is to make the legacy of the great composer, Giuseppe Verdi (1813 – 1901), available to everyone interested and to conserve it for future generations… Furthermore, the foundation is striving towards the founding of an International Verdi Professorship and several other Verdi-oriented projects, such as making the composer’s entire letter correspondence available in other languages apart from just Italian. Anyone who feels a calling to get involved in any way – and that applies particularly to students – is warmly invited to get in touch with the foundation.

We have firstly been asked to translate several parts of the organisation’s website from German into English and Italian. We’re delighted to have the opportunity to work in harmony with such a good cause and have already found some enthusiastic translator-music lovers to lend us a hand with this rather interesting project.

We’re continuing to help out the National Down Syndrome Congress with our translations.

While Madrid continues to shiver in the freezing February temperatures, PerMondo is opening up its warm arms to welcome new NGOs and old friends into its home. Let’s take a quick look at just some of the projects that we’re working on at the moment!

As we mentioned in our last post, our relationship with the National Down Syndrome Congress continues to flourish. This rather large project is developing quite nicely, and some of the more urgent translations have already been delivered. We all owe a big thank you to Lucía Campillo Rey, Ana Martín Mercader, Teresa del Barrio and Ana María Jiménez Melero for their translations, as well as to Michaela Capuccino, Alexandra Cuesta and Ana Martín Mercader for proofreading the texts!

Our longstanding and gratifying relationship with NGOs like the National Down Syndrome Congress is a testament to the quality and conscientiousness with which we and our volunteers carry out our work.

Our new project with Missionszentrum Port-Berger, Madagaskar (Hope e.V.), which we mentioned in our last post, has been concluded quickly and successfully.

This month, we’re happy to introduce you to Linda Mora from the NGO National Down Syndrome Congress (Roswell, Georgia, United States). For more information, have a read of our interview with her. The NGO needs us again for a series of new articles to be translated from English into Spanish. Keep an eye on their website, you’ll be able to read them soon!

What else? What’s new? It has been quite busy for the past two weeks so we’re going to keep you updated today on what has been happening 🙂

The new interns have found their footing at PerMondo and Mondo Agit, you may or may not have already been in touch with them, and they are a real help for this busy beginning of the year!

First of all, various big projects are now completed and we would like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work.

A new project with the International Forum of National NGO Platforms from French and English into Portuguese was successfully managed by: Helaíne Haddad Simões Machado, Andrea Marcondes, and Rodrigo Bostelmann de Oliveira. Thanks a lot to them!

New energy – Update January 21st 2016 http://www.permondo.eu/new-energy-update-january-21st-2016/ http://www.permondo.eu/new-energy-update-january-21st-2016/#comments Thu, 21 Jan 2016 14:02:52 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=4811 New energy – Update January 21st 2016

Last week we told you about our new project, so now we’ll you a bit more about it.

What’s new this week?

First of all, we’d like to share with you that we have new interns (great new energy!), so you will most probably be in touch with them soon. They will be involved in getting to know Mondo Agit and work actively with PerMondo, as well as translating and proofreading heaps of documents. The three girls are from France (Pauline Junca), Germany (Verena Müller) and Spain (Carolina Bermejo Lingres) and they have just survived their first week with us!

The project for the NGO Task Forces on Systemic Pesticides is still underway and has just got even bigger! We had some problems with the Italian translation and had to search for a new translator. With Chinese we also had some troubles, but one very friendly girl has decided to translate further parts, so now we are waiting on the last one. We’d now like to seize the moment and thank our volunteers:

Valentina Zacarelli, Ilaria Celestini, Anastasia Giardinelli, Cinzia Turrini, Serena Mariucci, Isabel Zapata, Sofía Monzón, Carolina Fernández, Clara Montaruli, Davinia Megías, Alejandro González López, Elena Zotova, Pavel Karpov, Lena Filipcic and Caroline Chan.

Beginning 2016 – Update January 12th 2016 http://www.permondo.eu/update-january-2016/ http://www.permondo.eu/update-january-2016/#respond Tue, 12 Jan 2016 14:21:49 +0000 http://www.permondo.eu/?p=4751 Beginning 2016 – Update January 12th 2016

What’s been happening since the beginning of 2016?

We started the New Year with a brand new idea: keeping you updated about what’s been happening at PerMondo in the most dynamic way.

Our idea is to post a blog entry every week or two, telling you what new projects are going on, what requests we’ve received from NGOs and especially to acknowledge your priceless help to make this world a better place. For previous projects, please visit PerMondo projects (classified by years).

Well, there are of course still some projects underway from last year, i.e. Task Forces on Systemic Pesticides. This has been quite a difficult project because of the terminology (as the name suggests – yes, it’s about pesticides), because of the desired language combinations – English into Italian and Spanish, as well as into Russian and Chinese – and the scale: 9,580 words (so a few translators have been and are still involved). Spanish and Russian have been delivered, but we are still waiting on some final documents for Italian and Chinese. We’ll acknowledge all the volunteers once all the translations have been sent to the NGO. But on our website (credits) you can already find some names.
